Social Media Apps That I Want Developed Yesterday

Honest confession: I love social media.

If you were to look at my phone usage, a large majority of my free time is spent scrolling through social media. Admittedly, it’s probably not the best way to spend my time, but it has allowed me to see what areas of need are still in social media.

There are plenty of different apps used for a variety of purposes. Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter are probably some of the most common. However, there are some things that even these apps cannot do.

The following is a list of undeveloped app ideas that I want to be mainstream immediately.

Business Cards

LinkedIn already has the corner on business based social media apps. It is perfect for building new connections online and maintaining those that you have made in the past.

However, what about the grand old tradition of sharing business cards? LinkedIn is a disaster for this type of thing. Even if someone says, “add me on LinkedIn”, you still have to go through the process of trying to remember them and their name.

However, with an app for business cards, this would be much simpler.

In this proposal, all users create or upload their own business card including their name, number, and email address. Then, when you come in contact with someone you would like to share your business card with, you simply allow them to have access to it. That user can then choose to add it to their collection or organize it into different subgroups of their choosing.

This keeps your information under your control and allows for easy access for others to get ahold of you. Ideally, this app would allow for users to call or email straight from their phone to whatever number email account you have listed. Plus, now that person has easy access to your information if they were to ever need something.

LinkedIn is a wonderful tool, however its inability to simplify connections makes a business card app a useful addition.

An App for Sports Fans

Niche social media apps have always struggled to get off the ground and running. In fact, there are very few (other than dating apps) that do a great job at bringing people together.

Twitter seems to be the most common app used by sports fans to share their takes. However, your take can easily get lost in a slew of other conversations about politics, family, vacations, or memes. But what if there was an app just for sports fans?

Specifically with attending a sporting event, I believe it would be nice to have something that brings the stadium together. Fans would be able to check-in to an event based on their location and then join the conversation amongst other fans there.

This allows for instant reactions and thoughts on nearly every situation that may arise in the game.

Another possible feature is an opportunity to connect individually with those around you. The NBA has experimented with this sort of concept with their “bubble fans”. They have the opportunity to talk and interact with the fans sitting around them, even though they are not there in person.

However, this app design would allow for you to share your location, as detailed as you approve, down to the seat number. Then, you can connect and get to know others in your section and develop friendships that last long beyond the game itself.

Major League Baseball already has the perfect app design to implement this idea. The “Ballpark App” allows you to check into games that you are attending, and even stores the ballpark and game information in a journal format. Adding a social component would help bring the fans and community together.

Decision Making App

My last app idea is more of a personal cry for help.

I am terrible at making decisions. It takes me forever to decide where I want to eat on Sunday’s after church, to the point where I often end up arriving after the lunch rush, even though my service ends before.

In this proposal, there are two separate functions to this app: posting a question and voting.

Each user has the opportunity to pose something they are struggling to decide between. For example, if a user is having a difficult time deciding where they want to eat, they can plug in up to four options that others in the app community can then vote on.

The app would monitor who is currently logged on and willing to vote and will then send them the “poll” in order for them to vote on. That user can then simply vote or also leave a reply as to why they voted the way they did. After a set amount of time, the results are then sent back to the poll creator who now has the decision made for them.

This app would help save plenty of arguments from occurring and allow for users to save time and energy in deciding what they want to do. All polls would be completely void of location so it would be impossible to track and stalk any of the users.

The only decision left to make is whether or not to design this app today or tomorrow.

None of these app ideas are perfect, but I would love to see some form of them developed in the upcoming years. What apps would you like to see created? Let me know in the comments!
